The Alamodome opened on May 15, 1993, at a cost of approximately $186 million. It is owned and operated by the City of San Antonio.

UTSA has played its home football games in the Alamodome since its inaugural season in 2011. The Roadrunners set NCAA modern startup program records for inaugural game (56,743) and average home (35,521) attendance during their first year. UTSA captured back-to-back Conference USA Championships in 2021 and 2022 at the Alamodome, playing in front of more than 40,000 fans each time.

The Alamodome was the home of the NBA World Champion San Antonio Spurs from 1993 to 2002. Additionally, the Valero Alamo Bowl takes place at the Alamodome every year. The Alamodome was awarded the 2001 HOSPY Award for Outstanding Recreational Facility by the Greater San Antonio Hotel and Motel Association.
