SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA track & field program will hit the road for its indoor, regular-season finale, traveling to participate in the Charlie Thomas Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M on Friday and Saturday at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium at the McFerrin Athletic Center.
UTSA will join 15 teams as the Charlie Thomas Invitational, which is slated to begin at 2:30 p.m. on Friday in College Station. The event will conclude on Saturday, starting with the men's 60-meter hurdles at 10:30 a.m.
It will mark the conclusion of the regular-season indoor schedule for the Roadrunners, who have spent three separate weekends in Houston for events and twice ventured to College Station for Texas A&M-hosted events.
The Roadrunners are coming off a strong showing at Houston's G5 & Mid-Major Invitational last weekend, where sophomore All-American Gary Haasbroek claimed the heptathlon with the fifth-highest score in the nation and sophomore Bashiru Abdullahi set a school record with a 7.80 clocking in the 60m hurdles.
Haasbroek and junior Danielle Spence lead the way for the Roadrunners in 2020. Spence is the defending C-USA Indoor triple-jump champion, while Haasbroek is the defending heptathlon titleholder and the 2019 C-USA Indoor Freshman of the Meet. Spence and Haasbroek, who set school records in their respective events, both collected second-team All-America honors at last year's NCAA Indoor Championships.
UTSA is under the direction Aaron Fox, who is in his 12th year as Director of Track & field/Cross Country. Fox is assisted by associate head coach Kareem Streete-Thompson (sprints/jumps/relays), recruiting coordinator Chris Adams (throws), David Hartman (cross country/distance), Michael McPherson (pole vault/multis/jumps) and Jackie Richards (400m/hurdles/relays).
