Bott finishes fifth, UTSA seventh at All-American Intercollegiate

HUMBLE, Texas — Hunter Bott finished in a tie for fifth place to lead the UTSA men's golf team to seventh at the All-American Intercollegiate at the Golf Club of Houston (par 72/7,425 yards). The final round scheduled for Tuesday was canceled due to wet course conditions.

Bott carded a 1-under-par 143 on Monday's 36-hole day, ending up with his third top-five finish of the season. The Montgomery native opened with an even-par 72 that featured four birdies and then posted a 1-under 71 with four more birdies in the second round, finishing just two shots behind co-medalists Bret Gray of Sam Houston and Frederik Kjettrup of Florida State. Bott was 4-under on the par fives and his eight birdies were tied for the top total in the tournament.

Behind Bott, the Roadrunners placed with a 597 (306-291), two shots ahead of a tie between Arkansas State and Lamar, five strokes in front of Louisiana Tech and six better than No. 46 Baylor in the 17-team field. No. 33 Florida State claimed the team title with a 569, while UTSA finished only six shots behind fifth-place Mississippi State.

Michael Rome carded a 2-under 70 in the second round behind four birdies that helped the super senior bounce back from an 81 for the first 18 and settle into a tie for 43rd.

Christian Fanfelle also grabbed a share of 43rd at 7-over after turning in rounds of 76 and 75.

David Harrison and Jack Wehman rounded out the UTSA lineup in 69th (81-75—156) and 82nd (77-82—159), respectively.

The Roadrunners will return to action next Monday, March 28, at the Bear Brawl in Waco.
