Rome collects all-conference accolades

DALLAS — UTSA senior Michael Rome has been named to the All-Conference USA Third Team, as the league office on Thursday unveiled its postseason honors for men's golf.

Rome picked up his first career all-league honor after leading the Roadrunners with a 73.16 stroke average in 2021-22, and that included a team-best 73.75 mark during the spring season. The senior played in all 11 tournaments and finished in the top 20 six times, including three top 10s.

The Austin Westlake High product shared medalist honors with teammate Hunter Bott at the Lone Star Invitational after carding an even-par 216 (75-67-74) to help UTSA captured the team title last September at TPC San Antonio's Oaks Course. He grabbed a share of eighth place with a 3-under-par 213 (72-71-70) at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in March and he turned in a career-best 8-under 208 that featured a 7-under 65 in the opening round — which stands as the second-best scorecard in program history — at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic to tie for 11th in April.

Rome wrapped up his career last week with a third-place individual finish at the C-USA Championship, as he fired a 4-under 212 (69-71-72) to collect all-tournament honors. He also won both of his contests during the match play rounds, helping the Roadrunners advance to the championship match for the second time in the last three league tournaments where they fell to No. 28-ranked Charlotte in a narrow 3-2 decision. Rome finished his time at UTSA with a career 73.5 scoring average and 10 sub-70 rounds, good for sixth all-time among Roadrunners.

With Rome's all-conference honor this year, UTSA now has earned 40 all-conference certificates in its history, including 13 under head coach John Knauer.
