Abonce, Carreon pace UTSA on second day of Schooner Fall Classic

NORMAN, Okla. — Daniela Abonce and Camryn Carreon each carded a 2-over-par round on Sunday to lead the UTSA women's golf team on the second day of the Schooner Fall Classic at Belmar Golf Club (par 70/6,112 yards).
 
Abonce and Carreon both posted a 72 to help the Roadrunners turn in a 296 on Sunday, putting them in a tie with Iowa State for 14th place (575). UTSA is only three shots behind Texas State nine strokes out of the top 10 teams with 18 holes left to play.
 
Carreon followed a 2-under 68 on Saturday with a 72 today. The San Antonio native had an eagle on the 298-yard, par-4 second hole and also recorded back-to-back birdies on Nos. 12-13. She is in a tie for 22nd place at even-par 140 in the 84-player field.
 
Abonce is two shots behind her teammate in a tie for 39th at 2-over 142. The freshman from Veracruz, Mexico, registered a birdie on the second and also on the 540-yard, par-5 third to headline her second-round 72 after opening the tournament with an even-par 70 on Saturday.
 
Lauren Rios has a share of 64th at 8-over 148 after posting rounds of 72 and 76.
 
Olivia Williams also is tied for 64th, as the freshman from England opened with a 1-under 69 on Saturday before turning in a 79 today.
 
Morgan Ellison is one shot back in a tie for 70th at 9-over 149 (73-76).
 
The final round is scheduled for Monday and the Roadrunners will tee off from No. 10 beginning at 9 a.m.
