UTSA takes down No. 69 North Texas

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's tennis team took down No. 69-ranked North Texas in dominant fashion with a 4-0 sweep of the Mean Green on Saturday afternoon at the UTSA Tennis Center.

This marks the first time since March 31, 2019, that UTSA defeated rival North Texas. The Roadrunners overcame the Mean Green by 4-3 in the last victory four seasons ago.

The Roadrunners started off strong as they automatically won the third doubles court by default as the Mean Green didn't have enough players to fill those spots.

UTSA secured the doubles point as Fatima Gutierrez and Alexandra Weir swept the North Texas duo of Marina Adati/Kexuan Zhou by 6-0.

Not having enough players came back to bite the Mean Green in singles action as well as UTSA's fifth and sixth players Adeliya Mukhutdinova and Stanislava Bobrovnikova won by default.

Only needing one more point to secure the sweep, Magda Tuells defeated Adati by set scores of 6-0 and 6-1 at the No. 4 court. UTSA ran away with a 4-0 sweep over No. 69 North Texas.

UTSA's record improves to 9-7 overall, while North Texas falls to a 9-6 record.

UP NEXT: The Roadrunners host two straight C-USA matches at the UTSA Tennis Center, hosting North Texas on March 11 and WKU on March 13.
