Carreon collects C-USA Golfer of the Week award

DALLAS — Following her record-setting victory at the Trinity Forest Invitational, UTSA senior Camryn Carreon has been named Conference USA Women's Golfer of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday.

Carreon smashed school records for low 18- and 54-hole scores en route to claiming her first collegiate win and the 18th in the 18-year history of the program while leading the Roadrunners to a ninth-place team finish. The San Antonio native posted a 14-under-par 202 on the 6,464-yard, par-72 Trinity Forest Golf Club layout to edge Tulane's Carla Bernat — Golfstat's No. 14th-ranked player — by one shot and turn in UTSA's first individual victory since Hannah Holzmann claimed the 2020 Texas State Invitational.

After opening with a 7-under 137 (68-69) on Monday, which matched the second-best 36-hole tally in program annals, Carreon fired a 7-under 65 on Tuesday to eclipse the previous UTSA low-score standard of 66 held by Paola Valerio and Hunter Nugent. A two-time all-conference selection, her 14-under total beat the previous 54-hole mark of 9-under established by Fabiola Arriaga at the 2014 C-USA Championship and matched by Ana Gonzalez at the 2019 league event, and her 202 was a three-shot improvement from Gonzalez's 8-under 205 posted at the 2017 Mercedes Benz-Collegiate Championship.

This marks Carreon's second C-USA weekly award of the season, as she also was honored on Oct. 24 after tying for eighth at the Dale McNamara Invitational with a 3-under 213 (74-72-67).

The C-USA Golfer of the Week awards are presented by Blenders Eyewear.
