SAN ANTONIO — UTSA head men’s golf coach Matt Wernecke on Friday announced that the program has signed local product Jacob King to a National Letter of Intent. The former Boerne Champion High School star and New Mexico transfer will join the Roadrunners beginning with the 2024-25 season.
“We are looking forward to bringing Jacob back home and having him join the program,” Wernecke said. “He has a lot of talent and he is a very accomplished player. Jacob is going to bring experience and a great work ethic.”
King is the third member of the signing class, joining David Martinez (Houston, Texas/Memorial HS) and Logan Zurn (Grapevine, Texas/Midland College)

Transfer from New Mexico who will have two seasons of eligibility remaining … played in one event as a redshirt freshman in 2022-23, carding a 72-76-75—223 at the John Burns Intercollegiate … all-state, all-region and all-district performer for Boerne Champion High School … Class 5A state runner-up in both 2019 and 2021 … three-time regional champion … captured three district crowns … finished fourth at the state tournament as a freshman in 2018 … 2021 Texas Academic Athlete First Team … racked up nine top-10 finishes on the junior circuit including a win in the 89-man field at The Stampede Invitational at River Crossing after shooting a 68-70—138 … fired a 70-72-72—214 at the 2023 Agave Amateur … also won three AJGA Longest Drive competitions.
