UTSA signs Olympian Fatoumata Kabo for 2024-25 roster

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA Director Track & Field/Cross Country Aaron Fox announced on Monday that the Roadrunners will be adding an Olympian and NCAA Division II National Champion Fatoumata Kabo to the Roadrunner hurdles and sprint corps in the 2024-25 season.

“We are extremely excited to announce the signing of NCAA Champion and now Olympian, Fatoumata Kabo. We are thrilled to have an athlete of this caliber coming into our program,” Fox said. “We can’t wait to get to work with her on reaching the next goals for her achievements in the classroom and on the track.”

Born in Senegal and raised in Carpenedolo, Italy, Kabo has earned a spot in the Italian national team heading to Paris later this month for the 2024 Olympic Games, contested August 2-10 at Stade de France. Kabo will compete as part of Italy’s 4x400-meter relay in Paris, earning her invitation after registering a career-best 52.24 individual 400-meter clocking at the Italian Championships on June 29 – ultimately finishing fourth in the individual event final. Kabo’s event is scheduled to open with Round 1 on August 9, heading toward the August 10 relay final. In addition to recent qualification announcements for Alanah Yukich and Diego Pettorossi, Kabo becomes the fifth Roadrunner to reach the Olympic games.

Following the Olympic games, Kabo will head to San Antonio after competing for Angelo State in San Angelo, Texas for the past two seasons. Capping her first year doing long hurdles, she’s fresh off winning NCAA DII national titles in both the 400-meter hurdles (57.39) and then running a 51.4-second split as the second leg of ASU’s 4x400m relay (3:32.88 combined). Kabo was the gold medal winner in both events at the 2024 Lone Star Conference Outdoor Championships, also helping the 4x100-meter relay squad to the silver with a combined 46.10. At the NCAA DII Indoor Championships Kabo finished fourth in the 400m (53.63) at the NCAA DII Championships, helping ASU’s 4x400m relay to the bronze medal. As a rookie, she competed in shorter sprints, taking third at the Lone Star Indoor Championships in the 200m and then 17th at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Before starting her collegiate track career, Kabo graduated from art school in Italy at Liceo Artistico Alessandro Dal Prato.
