SAN ANTONIO – For the first time since joining the American Athletic Conference, UTSA soccer secured both top offensive and defensive weekly awards at once, as officials from the conference office announced on Monday that Tyler Coker has been named AAC Offensive Player of the Week and Sasjah Dade is the AAC Defensive Player of the Week.
With a conference road win and a draw on last week’s card for the Roadrunners, UTSA has a 6-3-1 record heading into matchups this week on the road with nationally ranked Memphis and then Rice at home on Sunday.
Coker is a sophomore forward from New Braunfels, Texas, and quickly made a major impact on the UTSA offense this week, leading the Roadrunners to a 2-0 AAC victory at East Carolina on Thursday. Coker scored the game-winner over the Pirates in her first career start, then delivered the assist on the Roadrunners’ second score. Back at home against Abilene Christian, Coker assisted on UTSA’s early go-ahead goal.
A senior defender from Ontario, California, Dade not only scored the second goal at East Carolina off Coker’s assist, but also led the UTSA defense to its fifth clean sheet of the season while limiting ECU to a .105 shooting accuracy and just two shots on goal. Against Abilene Christian, Dade anchored the defense to just four ACU on-target attempts, while also logging a career-high five shots for herself.
This Roadrunners pair brings UTSA to four weekly awards this season, joining Olivia Alvarez (Offensive POTW, Aug. 19) and Addy Johnson (Freshman of the Week, Sept. 9). It is the first honor for Coker and the second time Dade has received a weekly conference honor.
