UTSA heads to Wichita for AAC Championship

WICHITA, Kan. — The UTSA men’s and women’s cross country teams head to Wichita, Kansas for the American Athletic Conference Championships this week, moved to Friday, November 1, due to expected inclement weather during the original Saturday schedule. The races will be run at L.W. Clapp Park, starting Friday afternoon.

The meet will open with the women’s 6K race at 4:05 p.m. CT followed by the men’s 8K race at 4:50 p.m. (CT). Results will be posted online on AthleticLIVE. The meet will be streamed on ESPN+ with Kyle Youmans and Trevor Fulkerson on the call, with Maria Trivelpiece as the on-site reporter.

Hosted by Wichita State, the Roadrunners will run against conference opponents in UAB, Charlotte, East Carolina, Florida Atlantic, Memphis, North Texas, Rice, South Florida, Temple, Tulane and Tulsa.

Tulsa has been dominating The American, winning the past ten men’s championships. In the past ten years, Tulsa’s women’s team has won in six different AAC Championships with their last being in 2022.

On the men’s team, AJ Tyler (24:37.7) and OJ Ruiz (24:53.2) hold two of the best times for the Roadrunners, setting those marks at the Arturo Berrios Invitational on October 18. They will be joined in competition by Victor Charo, Dominick Landin, Diego Ramirez, Idol Ramon and Cortlin Salge. For the women’s team, Jadelyn Malesich holds two of the top three times set by the Roadrunners this year with a 22:19.7 at the Cougar Challenge and a 22:47.7 at the Arturo Berrios Invitational, flanked by Sidney Bravo, Chante Dixon, Jadyn Gonzales, Lisa Pelletier, Itzel Rojo and Emma Wallace joining her on the course Friday.

The NCAA Regional Championships is on familiar ground in the next UTSA competition, with UTSA traveling back to College Station for the competition on Nov. 15.
