Ellison paces Roadrunners on opening day of Coach Mo Classic

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Morgan Ellison is tied for 10th place and UTSA is in 12th after the opening day of the Coach Mo Classic, which teed off Monday at St. John's Golf and Country Club (par 72/6,450 yards).

Ellison is part of an eight-way deadlock for 10th at 5-over-par 149 through the first 36 holes of the 54-hole tournament co-hosted by Furman and North Florida. The senior from Georgia started her week with a 1-over 73 in the morning round on the strength of a trio of birdies. She wrote down a three on the 418-yard ninth and on the 384-yard 12th and also circled her number on the 507-yard, par-5 12th. Ellison added her fourth birdie of the day with a two on the 174-yard 17th in the second round as part of a 76.

Meanwhile, the Roadrunners registered a 306 in the first round followed by a 311 to settle into 12th place (617), three shots ahead of North Florida and only four strokes behind 10th-place Furman.

Lauren Rios is in a tie for 22nd at 7-over 151. The Coppell, Texas native opened with a 2-over 74 that featured four birdies, threes on the 340-yard fourth, the 373-yard seventh and 393-yard 15th holes and a four on No. 12. She had another birdie during her second-round 77 with a three on the 418-yard ninth.

Daniela Abonce is tied for 44th (75-80—155), while Olivia Williams and Maria Bastarrica are in 77th (84-78—162) and 84th (86-82—168), respectively.

No. 39 Purdue leads the 16-team field with a 1-over 577 behind individual leader Natasha Kiel (-5), while 44th-ranked College of Charleston is in second (585).

The final round is slated for a 7:30 a.m. CT shotgun start.
