AUSTIN, Texas – The UTSA men’s and women’s track and field teams capped competition on Friday in Mike A. Myers Stadium on the final day at the Texas Invitational. Leading the way for the Roadrunners, the 400m duo of Fatoumata Kabo and Martín Kouyoumdjian, along with triple jumper Mifri Veso turned in the highest finishes of Friday’s competition.
Registering a new season-high and coming in as the top collegiate performer in the women’s 400m, Kabo (redshirt junior/Carpenedolo, Italy) produced a 53.46 to finish third overall behind only two unattached athletes. Her mark puts in a new placeholder as the fourth-fasted time in the American Athletic Conference this season.
In the very next race, the men’s 400m, Koutoumdjian (sophomore/Santiago, Chile) finished fifth overall, taking a big slice off his PR for a new career mark of 46.70 and moving up to tie for the fourth-fastest time in The American this year.
Topping the field events for the Roadrunners, freshman Veso (Pordenone, Italy) nailed a triple jump personal best of 12.33 (40-5.5) on the second jump of the event final, finishing fourth overall and third among collegiate performers in her first outdoor appearance for the Roadrunners – listing at third among AAC triple jumpers this season.
In the throws, grad transfer Garrett Stokes led UTSA’s performances with a 59.02 (193-8) measurement that garnered seventh place, sixth among collegians. On the women’s side, sophomore Nyaluet Diew opened UTSA’s day with a ninth-place 45.08 (147-11) toss in the women’s hammer.
Kicking off the UTSA running events for the day, freshman Selma Ims was the fifth collegiate finisher and ninth overall in the 100m hurdles with a PR time of 13.50, moving her up to fourth on the all-time UTSA performances list, boosting current time at sixth in the AAC standings. Also in the event, redshirt freshman Mia Lien was the eighth collegian and 12th overall with a PR time of 13.88 seconds.
One regular season meet remains for the Roadrunners after Austin, as UTSA travels back to College Station for Texas A&M’s Alumni Muster on Saturday, May 3, at E.B. Cushing Stadium. It’s into the postseason beyond that, beginning with a May 15-17 American Athletic Conference Championships date in Charlotte, North Carolina. The NCAA West First Round will be held May 28-30 in College Station.
