IRVING, Texas – UTSA women’s track and field sophomore jumper Ida Breigan garnered her first American Athletic Conference Outdoor Field Most Outstanding Performance honors on Thursday, as league officials announced the post-championship awards. Although this is her first outdoor honor, this marks the third MOP award for Breigan, who has swept indoor honors in her short time with the Roadrunners.
A second-year Roadrunner hailing from Fredrikstad, Norway, Breigan earned her first outdoor long jump title and third conference crown overall last week at Irwin Belk Track in Charlotte, North Carolina, during the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships. Breigan delivered a gold-medal outdoor career-high 6.50m (21-4) leap on her third overall jump – marking the 12th-best jump in the nation this season and the highest-ranked field event performance in the American Athletic Conference heading into the next week’s NCAA West First Round in College Station, Texas.
During each indoor and outdoor season, the MOP awards are presented to the athletes who post the highest-ranking marks on the NCAA performance list during the AAC’s championship meet.
Breigan’s outdoor career mark sits at eighth among the field competing at the NCAA West First Round, while her best measurement overall came during her rookie indoor season at 6.58m (21-7.25) – the UTSA and Norwegian Indoor National Records. Breigan is a two-time indoor All-American and was an outdoor Second Team All-American last season in Eugene with a 10th-place 6.35m (20-10) measurement.
Up next for Breigan among the 18 qualified Roadrunners, the NCAA West First Round is set to be contested on familiar ground at E.B. Cushing Stadium in College Station, May 28-30, competing for the opportunity to reach the NCAA DI Championships in Eugene, Oregon, June 11-14.
