Menin punches nationals ticket with career-best 400m hurdles mark

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – UTSA track and field Senior Hugo Menin set the stage for his first NCAA Nationals appearance with a career performance in Friday’s 400-meter hurdles quarterfinal in the NCAA West First Round at E.B. Cushing Stadium.

The Cysoing, France transfer from Tarleton State fired off a career-best 49.61 in the 400m hurdles to finish second in the second quarterfinal heat and seventh overall to earn his first trip to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, scheduled to compete June 11-14 at Hayward Stadium in Eugene, Oregon. He inched up his existing No. 2 time in the UTSA record book forward by .30 seconds on Friday night in College Station.

Closing out the men’s competition, the UTSA 4x400-meter relay of Martín Kouyoumdjian, Matthew Mills, Zane Hodges and Mike Roth finished 20th overall with a combined clocking of 3:09.43.

The NCAA West First Round will conclude on Saturday with the women’s events, as freshman Selma Ims also competes in the 400m hurdles quarterfinal on Saturday at 7:25 p.m., ahead of UTSA’s 4x400-meter squad with a meet-closing 8:45 p.m. start.

Led by the top 3 in each heat, the top 12 performers in each of Friday and Saturday’s events will punch their tickets to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
