UTSA soccer finalizes full 2025 slate for program's 20th season

SAN ANTONIO – Eighth-year UTSA soccer head coach Derek Pittman officially announced on Friday the Roadrunners’ eight-game non-conference schedule for the 2025 season. Adding to the previously announced American Athletic Conference slate with five additional non-conference home games, UTSA will host 11 regular season contests in front of the fans at the formidable Park West Athletics Complex and two road contests that round out the 18-game lineup for UTSA’s third season in the AAC. Season tickets are now on sale for just $65.

The 2025 Roadrunners are looking for even more growth from their second season in the AAC, finishing 8-7-3 overall for their fourth consecutive season finishing at .500 or better. The Roadrunners finished eighth in the league and narrowly missed the conference tournament on tiebreakers initiated by the least likely scenarios coming to fruition. Overall, the Roadrunners are 37-26-15 across the last four years, covering one of the most successful stretches since the program’s inception in 2006.

“We always love playing in front of our incredible fans at Park West and this year our schedule is chock-full of great games for our 210 supporters to come out and cheer this team on,” Pittman said. “This schedule will test us early with matches against Texas, Houston and nationally ranked TCU, which will prepare us for the intense competition in The American. We also have tough road games in Colorado against two very difficult opponents before competing against our cross-town rivals UIW. This is a huge year in our program’s history and we can’t wait to put a product on the field that our Roadrunner fans will be excited to cheer on and celebrate in our 20th season.”

Following an opening home exhibition against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Aug. 3) and a rematch of a spring exhibition at defending SEC Champion Texas (Aug. 9), UTSA opens the program’s historic 20th season with Big 12 Conference opponent Houston at Park West on Thursday, Aug. 14. The Cougars and Roadrunners will meet for the 11th time and in back-to-back years after traveling to Houston last season. The Cougars were 4-12-1 a year ago but have a new staff under former UTSA assistant Ben Williams.

UTSA will stick with the Big 12 theme into the weekend, also hosting reigning Big 12 Champion TCU on Sunday, Aug. 17. The Horned Frogs went 17-4-2 and were ranked 16th in the final poll, meeting UTSA for the ninth time overall, the first in San Antonio since 2010 and the first time since these programs last met in the first round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament.

The second week of the 2025 slate brings St. Mary’s to Park West for the second straight year, taking on the Roadrunners on Thursday, Aug. 21. UTSA earned the victory in last year’s inaugural regular season meeting with the Rattlers, with StMU finishing the year at 9-7-3. The Roadrunners will wrap up a four-game homestand with Lamar on Sunday, Aug. 24, renewing the nine-game series at Park West for the first time since 2021. The Cardinals were 5-8-6 last year and UTSA leads the overall series 6-2-1.

A Centennial State road swing follows for UTSA, donning the away uniforms for the first time in 2025 for a Thursday, Aug. 28, return game to Mountain West Conference opponent Colorado State. CSU went on to a 12-5-4 finish in the MWC semifinals after UTSA topped the Rams in the first meeting last year at Park West, 1-0. On Sunday, Aug. 31, the Roadrunners face another Mountain West foe, heading over to Colorado College for the first game between these teams since 2013. The Tigers were 8-9-3 overall last year, but a sturdy 7-1-3 at home in Colorado Springs.

Two more non-conference tilts remain before the Roadrunners open AAC competition, as UTSA takes on the crosstown matchup with Incarnate Word (UIW) for the second consecutive season on Thursday, Sept. 4. In the inaugural neutral site battle last August at San Antonio FC’s Toyota Field, the Roadrunners held off the Cardinals in a 1-0 victory to move the Hometown Showdown series record to 2-0 – while UIW went on to an 8-8-3 record on the 2024 season.

Closing out the non-con on Sunday, Sept. 7, East Texas A&M comes to San Antonio to face the Roadrunners for the third time in the last four years. Formerly Texas A&M-Commerce, the Lions trail 2-0 in the series and were 9-10-3 a year ago after extending their season to the Southland Conference championship game.

Following a 10-game conference slate for the Roadrunners, the American Athletic Conference Championship again will be hosted at the Premier Sports Campus on Nov. 3-9 in Lakewood Ranch, Florida. The NCAA Tournament is set to kick off Nov. 14 and run through the NCAA College Cup, hosted in early December in Kansas City, Missouri, at CPKC Stadium, home of the Kansas City Current.
