SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA cross country team officially kicked off the 2025 campaign on Friday, with the men placing fourth and the women eighth on the Windcrest Golf Course as a part of the UIW Invitational.
The men posted an average time of 20:33 in the 4-mile, led by freshman Ethan Carranza, who clocked in at 20:05.8 and placed 13. Not far behind, senior O.J. Ruiz was 16th at 20:15.2, while the newcomer trio of David Zuniga (20:46.0), Austin Lyda (20:50.4) and Amisadai Yanez (20:53.7) finished as a pack in, 32nd, 34th, and 35th, respectively.
Sophomore Diego Ramirez (71st – 21:27.3), freshman Michael Perez (82nd – 21:42.6) and newcomer Israel Cuellar (93rd – 22:06.3) were also in action at the event.
In the women’s 5k, freshman Jocelyn Karry used a 30th-place finish and a time of 19:05.0 to propel the group to an average of 20:24. Behind her, Madison Gilliam was 50th in 29:53.2, while Jadelyn Malesich was 55th in 20:04.7. Meanwhile, Annaliese Munoz placed 71st, clocking in at 20:42.1 and Savannah Lopez completed the Roadrunners top-five in 100th at 22:20.6.
Emma Wallace (106th – 22:43.5), Destiny Duenas (108th – 22:52.3) and Brianna Venegas (109th – 22:54.4) rounded things out for UTSA.
The ‘Runners will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 26, with the Gan’s Creek Classic on the docket in Columbia, Missouri.
