PHOENIX – The UTSA men’s tennis team was dealt a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Grand Canyon on Wednesday at the GCU Tennis Facility, with sophomore Ben Chetewy Ungar earning the Roadrunners lone score of the afternoon.
GCU snagged the doubles point with Diordan Macababbad and Charlie Pade besting the freshman tandem of Maximilian Ontiveros and Yonatan Sagiv, 6-4, before Daniel Jankoski and Brice Patoux topped Chetewy Ungar and classmate Oskar Grzegorzewski, 6-3.
In singles, Brice Patoux got the better of freshman Constantin Radu, 6-3, 6-2, and Janoski beat newcomer Timeo Bretin, 6-3, 6-4, for a 3-0 Lopes lead. Chetewy Ungar kept UTSA in the fight with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Macababbad, but Tristan Berard managed a 7-5, 7-5 win over sophomore Enzo Vargas to secure the GCU victory.
The Roadrunners will now turn their attention towards UT Arlington, with a matchup on the docket for Friday, Jan. 30, at 1 p.m. inside the UTSA Tennis Center in San Antonio.
