UTSA debuts Latvian sprinter Elizabete Kocina

SAN ANTONIO – Settling right into indoor action, UTSA Director Track & Field/Cross Country Aaron Fox announced on Friday that mid-year admit and Latvian champion sprinter Elizabete Kocina will open her career for the Roadrunners in this weekend’s Ted Nelson Invitational.

“It’s exciting to be able to add such an accomplished athlete to our squad and get right to competition," Fox said. "Elizabete has already proven herself numerous times on big national stages and will be tested early at the collegiate level. We’re excited to work with her to reach her goals in the classroom and her potential on the track.”

A highly decorated sprinter, Kocina has captured more than 10 Latvian or Baltic youth titles. She swept the 60- and 200-meter dashes at the 2025 Latvian Indoor Championships, and she also captured the Latvian U20 and Baltic U20 indoor crowns in both events. Outdoors, she took top honors in the 100-meter and 200-meter at the Latvian U20 Championships and also won the 200m and secured silver in the 100m at the Baltic U20 meet.

Kocina also captured titles in the 100m in 2024 at the Latvian Championships, Latvian U20 and Baltic U20. She also was the 200m runner-up that year at those three meets. The year prior, she won the 60m and 200m at the Latvian U18, the 100m at the Latvian U18 and the 200m at the Baltic U20.

Kocina owns personal bests of 7.51 seconds in the 60m, 11.78 in the 100m and 24.13 in the 200m.
