‘Runners to face Mean Green in The Convo

SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women's basketball team is set to welcome North Texas in an American Conference showdown on Wednesday at the Convocation Center with tipoff slated for 3 p.m.

The contest is the squad’s annual Rowdy Rodeo, presented by Pedrotti’s Ranch, with festivities including a light-up UTSA cowboy hat giveaway, as well as free pizza for UTSA students. Spectators will also have a chance to win a pair of free tickets to the San Antonio Rodeo.

The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+, with Jordy Fee-Platt (play-by-play), Carlie Heineman (analyst) and Katie Goodman (reporter) on the call. The Roadrunners (9-9, 4-3 American) will look to avoid a three-game losing streak after dropping contests to East Carolina and Memphis last week. Most recently, UTSA suffered a 50-42 defeat at the hands of the Tigers with senior Ereauna Hardaway providing a bright spot with a game-high 15 points, seven assists and five rebounds. Additionally, classmate Cheyenne Rowe flirted with a double-double, scoring eight with eight boards.

UTSA remains the league leader in field goal percentage defense, holding opponents to 36.9% from the field, and in scoring defense at 57.9. Additionally, the ‘Runners commit the least amount of fouls in the American with only 16.3 per game.

The Mean Green (11-9, 5-3 American) lost to Tulsa, 57-53, in their last contest and enters half a game above UTSA in the conference standings.

UNT has been dominant on the glass, with a rebound margin of plus-7.7, pacing the conference, and 16.1 offensive rebounds per game, sitting 16th in the NCAA. In rebounds per game, an average of 42.6 is 16th nationally, and they’re just behind the ‘Runners with a 38.0% field goal defense.

Individually, Megan Nestor has been nearly unstoppable, leading the nation with 265 rebounds and an average of 13.3 per game. 11 double-doubles are 10th across the country, and she hits 58.8% of the shots she takes to rank 15th.

Aysia Proctor serves as the squad's leading scorer with 13.6 points per game, and Nestor is not far behind with 12.8. Andi Schissler runs the offense to the tune of 43 assists, and defensively, Tionna Lidge boasts 13 blocks, and Nestor has swiped 29 steals.
