ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Wrapping up the second day of action on the indoor track at the Albuquerque Convention Center, UTSA track & field closed off the indoor regular season at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational. Competing against over 35 programs and numerous track clubs, the Roadrunners logged a quintet of top-15 finishes at the elite competition.
Pacing the Roadrunners on the day, junior Nyaluet Diew was the first UTSA finisher of the day, registering a season-best 15.14m (49-08.25) in the women’s shot put to secure fifth place with her third throw.
Later making the weekend’s best finish for the distance corps, rookie Jocelyn Karry earned sixth place on a time of 5:09.19 in her first collegiate indoor mile. On the men’s side of the mile, freshman David Zuniga came in 15th with a time of 4:23.57. Coming down the backstretch of the meet, sophomore Gabe Tubbs earned 12th place in the 800-meter, just a hair shy of his career best on a 1:53.34 clocking.
Leading UTSA’s hurdlers, sophomore Charlie Staddon was 15th in the 60-meter hurdles prelim on a time of 8.12 seconds, while freshman Tyler Madison just barely missed a new season best in the 60-meter with a 6.93 clocking for 14th place.
Making the first relay appearance of the indoor, the quartet of Israel Wray, Cortlin Salge, Tubbs and Staddon finished 13th in the 4x400-meter relay with combined clocking of 3:18.37.
