Roadrunners in third place after day two of Compadres Collegiate

PLAYA DEL CARMEN, Mexico — UTSA is in third place after the second day of the Compadres Collegiate, which continued Monday at Iberostar Playa Paraiso Golf Club (par 71/6,701 yards).

The Roadrunners registered a 308 in the second round and have sole possession of third place with a 600 after posting a 4-over-par 292 on Sunday. UTSA is one shot ahead of Drake and two in front of ULM while trailing North Texas by seven strokes. Host UTRGV took over the team lead through 36 holes thanks to a 291 on Monday, which puts them three shots clear of the Mean Green.

Individually, Joshua Hong and David Martinez paced the Roadrunners on Monday, as each player turned in a 75.

Hong is now part of a three-way tie for second place at 1-over 145 after opening with a 70. His second-round 75 featured three birdies, all on the front nine. The freshman from Mexico posted back-to-back birdies on Nos. 4-5 and added this third on 426-yard, par-4 ninth. He is four shots off the pace of 3-under par set by North Texas’ Alex Huang.

Martinez posted his second straight 75 to move up the leaderboard and into a tie for 14th at 6-over 150. The sophomore out of Houston Memorial High School wrote down four birdies on Monday, including three over a four-hole stretch of the front nine. He recorded threes on the 375-yard 1st, the 354-yard third and the 377-yard fourth while also circling his number on the 485-yard, par-5 14th.

Francisco Solorza has a share of 19th at 8-over par, as he followed a 72 on Sunday with an 80 today that was highlighted by a trio of birdies.

Sam Acharya (79-78—157) and Brayden Bare (75-82—157 round out the UTSA lineup in a tie for 33rd, while Jacob King is tied for 17th (73-78—151) while playing as an individual.

The final round is scheduled for a 7:30 a.m. CT shotgun start on Monday.
