Roadrunners to host Bobcats on Tuesday in Battle for I-35

SAN ANTONIO—The UTSA softball team is back in The Military City, as they are set to host Texas State on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Battle For I-35. The contest will also serve as UTSA’s annual Greek Night.

The Roadrunners (19-18, 7-5 American) will look to bounce back after dropping three against Florida Atlantic last time out. Junior Samantha Mundine led the UTSA hitters with a .375 batting average against the Owls, going 3-for-8 and scoring a run.

The Bobcats (21-15, 4-5 Sun Belt) took one of three against Marshall in their last series, despite boasting one of the top pitching staffs in the country. They check in at 25th with a 2.79 ERA, a 3.09 strikeout-to-walk ratio that is 10th, and a 1.28 WHIP that is 27th.

Maddy Azua has played a major role in their success with 14 victories on the season, placing her eighth across the NCAA. She’s made 21 starts, slotting her third, while 11 complete games have her 10th and 132.1 innings second. She boasts a 2.06 ERA that leads the Sun Belt, and she’s fanned 139 for the seventh-most across the country. Additionally, Azua is 15th with three saves, and a trio of shutouts has her 30th.

Along with Azua, Emma Strood has three wins on the season, with a 2.83 ERA and 46 strikeouts over 52.0 innings of action. At the plate, Keely Williams tops the team with a .393 batting average and a 1.085 OPS. Not far behind, Aiyana Coleman hits .325 and has an OPS of 1.160 with a squad-leading 25 RBIs.
