FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The UTSA men’s track & field team was 2-for-2 on qualifying opportunities on Friday evening at the NCAA West First Round. Both Martín Kouyoumdjian and Jemuel Miller punched their tickets at John McDonnell Field with qualifying marks for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
A junior from Santiago, Chile, Kouyoumdjian snapped his home country’s national 400m record for the second time in three days, clocking a 45.30 to finish seventh in the quarterfinal – registering the second-best time in UTSA program history. Kouyoumdjian earns his first individual appearance at NCAA Outdoors, last appearing on two relays in 2024 in Eugene.
Right on the heels of qualification No. 1, the second for the Roadrunners went official, as the Bridgetown, Barbados redshirt junior Miller punched the ticket for his third trip to nationals with an 11th-place 16.08m (52-9.25) triple jump measurement on the third attempt. A three-time All-American, Miller last appeared in Eugene in 2024, earning 12th place in the event.
With two women’s qualifications already in the books, that brings UTSA’s count for Eugene to four, with more opportunities coming up on Saturday during the final day of women’s competition.
On Saturday in the women’s action, the discus leads off at 1 p.m., ahead of the high jump at 2 p.m., triple jump at 6 p.m., 400m second round at 6 p.m., 400m hurdles second round at 7:25 p.m. and concluding the meet on the 4x400m relay at 8:45 p.m.
The meet will feature live results from FlashResults. The competition will be streamed throughout the week on ESPN+ at the following links: Day 4 (6 p.m.). Digital program for the meet can be found here.
