SAN ANTONIO – After knocking out the biggest margin of victory this season, the UTSA soccer team (2-0-2) rolls into week three with Salute to Armed Forces presented by USAA on Thursday night, and Texas Southern (1-2) coming to the Park West Athletics Complex for the first time since 2022. The final game in UTSA’s current homestand, kickoff between the Roadrunners and Tigers is set for 7:30 p.m. and will be broadcasted on ESPN+

Presented by USAA, Thursday will be Salute to Armed Forces at Park West. The first 100 fans get a FREE camo USAA Birds Up pennant. Food trucks will be available from Playa Bowls & Tlaloc Mexican Food. The Club of the Game is SA United. In addition to special recognitions of Armed Forces, there will be a program pregame presentation.

About the Roadrunners
The Roadrunners remain just one of two undefeated teams in the American Conference and are coming off a two-win week, topping Colorado College and St. Mary’s by a combined 6-1 margin – bringing UTSA’s goal total to 10 after the opening four games for the first time since 2022. With the reigning American Conference Champion Roadrunners riding elevated offense this season, UTSA averages 2.5 goals per game to rank 53rd nationally and second in the American, while tallying 12.3 shots per game and a .388 SOG percentage. Defensively, UTSA is fourth in the conference right now with a 1.25 goals-against-average and .667 save percentage – both stats tilted toward the tough opening-week matchups with now-ranked Texas State and TCU.
Leading the UTSA offense with a league second-best 0.75 goals per game, redshirt sophomore Ava Jackson has scored a goal in three consecutive games. Six other Roadrunners have scored a goal (Dulci Binns has two, while Brooklyn Bailey, Amelia Clark, Lilli Dendhardt, Aaliyaiah Durden and Sadie Paul) have notched one apiece. Sophomore Brooklyn Bailey has logged 13 shots in that span to top UTSA and rank seventh in the American (3.25 spg). Meanwhile, everyone has gotten a helping hand from redshirt sophomore Leah Varela, who leads the conference and ranks third in the nation with four assists so far.
Under ninth-year head coach Derek Pittman, the Roadrunners have made Park West an extremely difficult place to play, setting attendance records in two of the last three years while racking up a 28-11-9 (67.7 percent winning) record at home since 2020-21. In addition, Pittman tied the program record against St. Mary’s and has the opportunity to take over as the all-time UTSA wins leader with a victory Thursday.
About the Texas Southern Tigers
Coming into Thursday’s matchup at 1-2 after narrowly falling across town at UIW on August 20. TSU is starting the second season under Danesha Adams.
In 2025, the Tigers went 8-7-4 and are just two years removed from reaching the Southwestern Conference (SWAC) final. TSU is averaging 1.00 goals per game and taking 9.00 shots with an efficient .556 SOG percentage. Defensively, it’s a 1.00 GAA and .824 save percentage for the Tigers.
Three TSU players earned SWAC weekly honors after their opening week of action against UT Rio Grande Valley and Houston Christian. Freshmen Juliette Gomez and Jiselle Caffey were SWAC Defensive Player and Newcomer of the Week, respectively. Meanwhile, senior Alessandra Bastidas was Goalkeeper of the Week. Caffey is one of three Tigers with a goal, while Alana Aiken has a goal and an assist and Ilena Guzman has a team-high two assists. In goal, Bastidas hasn’t given up a goal, but redshirt senior Alicia Audu started the last two outings with a 1.71 GAA and 10 saves on a .769 save percentage.
Series history
It’s been all Roadrunners in the seven-game series to date at 7-0, and the Tigers are making their first trip to Park West since 2022. In that game, the Roadrunners delivered a 7-0 drubbing – UTSA has put up seven goals in six of the seven series meetings, excepting 2009 when UTSA won 6-1. The series dates to UTSA’s first season in 2006 and the overall series scoring margin is 48-1 in UTSA’s favor.
