UTSA welcomes 10-time NJCAA All-American Meryeme Mai

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Aaron Fox announced the addition of Midelt, Morocco native and 10-time junior college All-American Meryeme Mai for the 2026-27 cross country and track & field squads.

“With Meryeme, we’re getting an accomplished distance talent who has already proven she can compete at an extremely high level,” Fox said. “We’re excited to have her in San Antonio having only scratched the surface of her potential and we’re looking forward to helping her reach her top performances and her goals in the classroom.”

A highly decorated student-athlete, Mai was dominant on the track for Garden City Community College, closing out her junior college career with a fifth-place finish in the 1500-meter, a fourth-place finish in the 5,000-meter and a bronze medal in the 10,000-meter at the 2026 NJCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She earned silver at regionals in the 10,000m, clocking a school-record time of 36:56.33, and at the 2026 NJCAA Indoor Championships, placed fifth in the mile at 4:54.19 and fourth in the 3,000m with a program record of 9:44.43. Additionally, she holds Broncbuster records in the 5,000m at 17:01.89 and 1,500m at 4:38.98.

As a junior college freshman, she was seventh in the 5,000m and fourth in the 10,000m at the 2025 NJCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships, and indoors ran a personal best of 2:58.73 in the 1,000-meter en route to a fifth-place finish. She also added an eighth-place finish as part of the distance medley relay, was 11th in the 3,000m and 14th in the mile.

In cross country, she finished 20th at the 2025 NJCAA Division I Cross Country Championships, after a third-place finish at the regional level. With a personal record of 1:23.13.1 she was eighth at the NJCAA Half Marathon Championship, and in the 2024 NJCAA Division I Cross Country Championships, she was 30th. Additionally, she holds cross country personal bests of 17:29.2 in the 5k and 21:57.1 in the 6k.
