Stellar offensive showing sparks another sweep

SAN ANTONIO – On Friday, UTSA Volleyball hosted East Texas A&M in the second of three days at the 2026 Roadrunner Classic. The hosts comfortably swept their way to a fourth-straight victory, improving to 5-2 overall. Caroline Tredwell wowed with an exceptionally-efficient 10 kills as the Navy & Orange’s winning streak swelled to 10 straight sets. With their loss, the Lions fell to 5-3 on the campaign.

Set-by-set: UTSA wins 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-19)

FIRST SET

Junior Isabella Arroyave picked up where she left off on Thursday night, landing three kills as Valeria Ortiz poured in an ace to open up a 6-0 run out of the gate. Then, Sydney Bryant and Gigi Mason teamed up to secure five straight points at 14-5. Six of seven points went to the Lions, forcing Carol Price-Torok to call for time. Coming out of the stoppage, Bryant found the floor three times amid a 5-1 run that swelled the lead back to eight. After a staggering 20 kills from UTSA, two attack errors from the visitors closed the evening’s first set at 25-18.

SECOND SET

Three UTSA miscues in short order left the hosts facing a 12-7 deficit amid a timeout. Caroline Tredwell reached another gear in response, drilling home four kills to cap an 11-4 run that saw her side reclaim a two-point advantage. After the two sides traded a pair of ties down the stretch, the ‘Runners rattled off three straight points. Bryant notched a block that set up an Ally Tribe kill before the redshirt freshman landed her first collegiate ace, capping the frame at 25-22.

THIRD SET

While Tribe racked up three more terminations, both squads exchanged runs early before ET took a slim 11-10 lead. Gigi Mason then charged a five-point surge with two kills and a block to enter the media timeout up four. Of the Roadrunners’ final six points, four came courtesy of Bryant kills, setting up match point at 24-19. A well-placed Giada Obregon serve sent a pass back over the net, leaving Tribe to triumphantly cap the affair with a kill straight to the Convocation Center floor.

NUMBERS OF NOTE

  • UTSA improved its winning streak to four straight matches, taking 10 consecutive sets in the process.
  • The ‘Runners last won 10 straight sets in September 2023, sweeping three straight opponents before taking the opening stanza from (RV) SMU.
  • For the third straight outing, UTSA amassed a hitting percentage of at least .300 in the win.
  • The Roadrunners last hit .300 or higher across three straight matches in October 2019.
  • Three different Roadrunners (Mason, Tredwell and Bryant) reached double digits in kills, marking the second such outing this fall.
  • Redshirt freshman Sydney Bryant led the way for the fifth time this campaign with 13 kills.
  • Caroline Tredwell’s 10 terminations came on a blistering .833 clip for the highest single-match mark by a Roadrunner with at least five attempts in 2026.
  • For the seventh straight time to open the campaign, Valeria Ortiz paced the squad in assists, tallying 21 in the sweep.
  • Starting libero Alyssa Manitzas led her side with 13 digs, adding six digs and an ace.
  • The Roadrunners combined for 20 kills on a .586 hitting percentage in the first set, led by six kills from Sydney Bryant and five from Isabella Arroyave.
  • The latter found the floor a season-best seven times against the Lions, coupling the mark with a solo block.
  • Megan Hawkins narrowly missed out on her first double-double of the fall, notching 15 assists and nine digs across the three-set affair.
  • Of the seven Roadrunners who recorded an attack, six posted hitting percentages of at least .200 against ET.

UP NEXT

On Friday, the fifth-annual Roadrunner Classic comes to a close with two matches from the Convocation Center. After a neutral match at 10:30 a.m. between East Texas A&M and Gonzaga, the hosts are set to hit the floor at 1 p.m. against IU Indy. The Jaguars (4-5) look to end the week at .500 while Carol Price-Torok’s bunch has its sights set on a fifth straight win.
