HARDWARE IN THE HOUSE

In addition to Thursday’s matchup serving as Education Day, the NCAA will be in attendance for the intracity clash. This year’s Division I Women’s Volleyball Final Four will be held in the Alamodome on Dec. 17 and 20, hosted by UTSA and the NCAA. The national championship trophy will be set up in the Convocation Center lobby, giving spectators an early look at the nation’s most coveted prize.

SERVIN’ UP A STORM

Against the Cougars of SIUE, the Navy & Orange posted 16 aces across the five-set affair. The mark matched a program record during the 25-point rally-scoring era (since 2008). Ortiz led the way with five perfect serves while Makinsey Jones (four), Ally Tribe (three) and Alyssa Manitzas (two) each poured in multiple of their own. The Roadrunners tallied more aces in the third set (eight) than they did in any match across the entire 2014 season (six).

SCOUTING THE COMPETITION

Over the weekend, UIW finished 0-2 at LSU's season-opening tournament, falling to both Houston and the hosting Tigers. The Cardinals hit .171 as a group, suffering defeat in six of seven sets played.

Meanwhile, Tarleton State spent its weekend in the Grand Canyon State at the Wildcat Classic. (RV) Arizona and UC Santa Barbara both toppled the Texans before TSU responded with a Sunday sweep of Prairie View A&M. On Wednesday night, the Texans fell in four sets at (RV) Rice.
