Chris Davis was announced as an assistant coach for UTSA track & field in August 2026. Taking over sprints and hurdles for the Roadrunners, Davis originally got his coaching start with UTSA while working with the same groups as a volunteer assistant coach for seven years following his own collegiate success as an athlete. Over the years, Davis assisted in the training of some notable Roadrunners, including Bashiru Abdullahi (two-time All-American, three-time Conference USA Champion, 110m hurdles and 60m hurdles record-holder), Alanah Yukich (2024 Olympian and two-time Conference USA Champion), Mike Roth (All-American, two-time Conference USA Champion, 2023 CUSA High Points Scorer, 400m indoor record-holder), Faith Roberson (400m hurdles record-holder), Desmond Jefferson (Conference USA Champion) and Vasha Sheriff (former indoor 400m record-holder).

My goal is to build a sprints and hurdles program rooted in hard work, consistency and a growth mindset, while helping our athletes reach their full potential and creating something that we can be proud of for years to come.”
Davis joined the staff after spending the last season of his three years at the school as TMI Episcopal’s Upper School head coach. He built up a disciplined and successful environment at TMI, leading the team to consecutive top five finishes at the TAPPS State Championships and coached the TAPPS 400m State Champion in Kagan Hill. While coaching the middle school sprints and hurdles, Davis led the team to the 2023 ISAL Team State Championship title. He’s also spent more than two years coaching sprints and hurdles for San Antonio Sprint Elite Track Club, training 15 athletes who qualified for the 2024-26 National AAU Track & Field Championships.
A standout sprinter and hurdler at Missouri, Davis earned his undergraduate degree in Marketing. He was a six-time All-Big 12 performer and a three-time NCAA West Regional qualifier, reaching the USATF National Championships seven times after coming to Columbia as the Georgia 4A High School State Champion in the 300m hurdles.
