Shawn Lewis is in his second season at UTSA and first as director of player development after one year as a defensive assistant.

In 2025, Lewis helped the defensive staff at UTSA, as the Roadrunners registered a seven-win campaign that was capped with a 57-20 rout of FIU in the First Responder Bowl.

Lewis came to San Antonio from El Camino College in Los Angeles, where he was the program’s pass game coordinator and inside wide receivers coach in 2023 and 2024.

Prior to that, Lewis was the running backs coach at Angelo State in 2022, helping the Rams to a 12-1 overall record, the Lone Star Conference Championship with a 9-0 mark and the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division II playoffs. He coached a pair of running backs who earned numerous honors. Nate Omayebu III earned second-team all-region, Lone Star Conference Offensive Back of the Year and first-team all-conference accolades after rushing for 1,065 yards, while Kason Philips collected first-team all-league recognition as the all-purpose back.

Lewis worked on the Texas staff from 2018 through 2021, serving as quality control and assistant wide receivers coach. He also completed an internship with the Dallas Cowboys in 2021 during their training camp.

Lewis earned his bachelor’s degree in general business with a minor in human resource management from Missouri Southern State.
