Searching for A Sweep
The UTSA men captured the program’s first-ever SLC Indoor title in February in Houston and are looking for a sweep of the conference crowns this week. Behind Coach of the Year Aaron Fox and individual champions Brandon Buteaux (heptathlon) and Mthobisi Baloyi (800 meters), UTSA scored 111 points to edge Sam Houston State (104.33) and defending champion Stephen F. Austin (103). The Roadrunners finished third with 96 points at last year’s SLC Outdoor and last won an outdoor championship in 2001.

Tough Task
The UTSA women have a tough task on their hands as they will be competing without the services of 2005 SLC Outdoor Athlete of the Year and three-time All-American Ryanne Dupree, who is taking a redshirt season. Dupree scored a meet-high 25.5 points in helping the Roadrunners finish fourth with 113 points. UTSA placed fourth last year and last won an outdoor title in 1997, their fifth title in a six-year span.

Defending Champions
With Dupree out, juniors Morgan Moszee and Lyndsey Sidney are the only defending individual champions on either roster this year. Moszee won the long jump and grabbed gold with Sidney, Dupree and Rosalind Holmes on the 4x100-meter relay team at the 2005 meet. Amazingly, the UTSA men finished third as a team without an individual champion last year. Since joining the SLC in 1992, the women have captured 43 individual or relay titles, while the men have won 28.

SLC Accolades
The women have earned 17 SLC Outdoor superlatives in 14 meets. Dupree was Athlete of the Year, Outstanding Track Performer and High Point Scorer in 2005, the first awards since Tameka Roberts swept the same honors in 1997. For the men, Leonard Byrd was Athlete of the Year in 1996 and Outstanding Track Performer in 1995, while David Hartman was Outstanding Track Performer and High Point Scorer in 1996. Que McMaster was named Coach of the Year in 2001.
