SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA men’s track & field team kicks off its 2007 indoor season on Friday when it travels to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Arkansas Invitational. The Roadrunners will send 23 athletes to the RandalTysonTrackCenter to compete in what should be one of the top season-opening meets in the country.
UTSA welcomes back senior All-American Brandon Buteaux (indoor/hepathlon) and two other national qualifiers – junior Steven Brown (outdoor/long jump) and Will Vese (outdoor/110-meter hurdles) – in addition to 11 returning letterwinners and 11 newcomers this season. However, Buteaux only will compete during the outdoor campaign, as he completed in his fourth season of indoor competition a year ago.
The Roadrunners are coming off a 2006 indoor campaign that saw them win the program's first-ever Southland Conference Championship. Aaron Fox, the 2006 SLC Indoor Men's Coach of the Year, begins his fifth season as head coach and is in his eighth year overall at UTSA.
