SAN ANTONIO ? The UTSA men's track & field team continues its trek toward the 2007 Southland Conference Championships (May 4-6, Nacogdoches) when it participates in this weekend's Texas Twilight meet in Austin.
The action gets started at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday when junior Luke Johnson and freshmen Chris Koenig and Ryan McMakin compete in the hammer. Johnson is coming off a school-record performance at last weekend's David Noble Angelo State Relays, along with a first-place showing in the shot put. The trio will pull triple duty this weekend, competing in the shot and discus in addition to the hammer.
Freshman Johnathan Whittaker, who already has qualified for the NCAA Midwest Regional in the high jump, will perform in that event as well as the triple jump.
Multi-event senior Brandon Buteaux and sophomore Tommy Wolfe will continue their preparation for the conference decathlon this weekend. Buteaux ? who currently ranks third nationally ? will see action in the discus, long jump, pole vault, 110-meter hurdles and 1,600-meter relay, while Wolfe will compete in the discus, pole vault and 1,600-meter relay.
In the running events, head coach Aaron Fox plans to get his sprinters plenty of work this weekend, as four Roadrunners will compete in the 200 meters and three others will run in the 400 meters. UTSA also will run in the 400- and 1,600-meter relays.
The middle distance crew also will have strong contingent of six runners who will compete in the 800 and 1,500 meters and 3,000m steeplechase.
