SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will look to get back on the winning track this weekend when it begins a three-game Conference USA series with fellow league newcomer Charlotte. The set is slated to get underway at 6 p.m. on Friday and it will continue the following two days at 2 p.m. and 11:30 p.m., respectively.
The Roadrunners (26-15, 11-7 C-USA) dropped their third consecutive contest on Tuesday with a 5-2 setback at Houston Baptist. While the losing streak has come at a pivotal point in the season, the Birds remain in the thick of the Conference USA league race. UTSA trails only Rice and Southern Mississippi and is tied with East Carolina for third place with four weekends left in the regular season.
UTSA’s probable Friday night starter, Brock Hartson, has not allowed an earned run in 29 innings pitched dating back to the first inning against Louisiana Tech on March 28.
Charlotte (12-25-1, 4-13 C-USA) comes to the Alamo City playing its best baseball of the season. The 49ers have won four of their past five games, including a 12-4 triumph against Wake Forest on Wednesday. Brett Land is the team's leader at the plate with a .298 average and nine doubles.
This weekend marks the first-ever series between the two programs.
