NEW ORLEANS, La. — Justin Anderson delivered UTSA’s first complete game shutout since April 7, 2012, and he struck out a career-high 10, as the Roadrunners downed Tulane, 5-0, on Saturday to clinch this weekend's series at Turchin Stadium.
Anderson, the junior right-hander from Houston, finished the morning outing with seven strikeouts over the final four frames, including a swing and miss by Bowen Woodson to end the game. The shutout was the program's first since Anderson performed the feat against McNeese State two seasons ago.
John Bormann led five Roadrunners with two hits apiece by going 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of RBIs. Bormann finished the weekend series with two hits in all three contests.
UTSA (21-11, 8-4 C-USA) got its scoring done in the middle innings beginning with Horacio Correa III’s RBI triple in the third, which scored Mitchell Matulia.
An inning later, Bormann roped a two-run double into the gap in left center to score RJ Perucki and Mike Warren, which gave the Birds a 3-0 edge.
Perucki plated John Welborn with a sacrifice fly to left in the fifth and Warren brought home the final run a batter later with a single to left, which scored Correa III.
Warren now has reached base in a career-high 26 consecutive games.
UTSA will wrap up its five-game road trip at 6 p.m. on Tuesday night at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (17-15).
