SAN ANTONIO — With three weekends remaining before the Conference USA Tournament, UTSA will begin the home stretch of its regular season this weekend with a three-game series at Middle Tennessee. First pitch in Friday's opener is slated for 6 p.m., while the series will continue the next day at 4 p.m. and Sunday's finale is scheduled for noon.
The Roadrunners (28-18, 12-9 C-USA) currently reside in fifth place in the league standings and trail UAB and East Carolina by one game for third. UTSA has split its last four contests, including a midweek series against Lamar.
Middle Tennessee (23-22, 11-10 C-USA) comes into weekend play in eighth place in the C-USA standings. The Blue Raiders have been a potent foe at home this season with a 17-9 mark at Reese Smith Jr. Field, including a series win over Old Dominion last weekend.
Trent Miller is the lone Middle Tennessee batter with a batting average north of .300. The senior outfielder is hitting .343 with team highs in hits, doubles, RBIs, and slugging percentage.
Friday night starter Zac Curtis leads the way on the hill with a 6-2 record and 2.08 ERA. Cody Tollison has been the most efficient arm out of the bullpen allowing just two earned runs in 16 appearances.
This will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
