SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women’s track & field team will open its indoor season on Saturday at the Texas A&M 11-Team Invitational. The one-day meet will be contested at Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium in College Station.
Action will begin with the high jump at noon and a rolling schedule of events will follow throughout the day. Running events are scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. with the 60 meters preliminary heats.
Athletes from Abilene Christian, Baylor, BYU, Oklahoma State, South Carolina, Stephen F. Austin, TCU, Texas and Texas State will compete with the Roadrunners and meet host Texas A&M.
Eight returning letterwinners and 25 newcomers highlight this year's roster, as head coach Aaron Fox enters his eighth season leading the women’s program. Stephanie Wangui is back this year after winning Conference USA Championships in the 800m and distance medley relay, as are fellow DMR teammates Grace Kohler and Shantel Swift.
Friday will mark the first of four outings leading up to this year's league meet, which is scheduled for Feb. 24-25 in Birmingham, Ala.
