SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will open its 2016 campaign on Friday evening at the Aggie Opener, which will be hosted by Texas A&M at the Dale Watts Cross Country Course in College Station.
The men's 6,000-meter race is scheduled to begin at 7:15 p.m. and the Roadrunners will be joined by runners from Lamar and meet host Texas A&M. Monty Bertschy, Luca Chatham, Alex Cruz, Hunter Hawkins, Martin Luevano, Peter Sepulveda, Saul Vasquez and John von Dohlen are scheduled to compete for UTSA.
The Roadrunners, who return six letterwinners from a year ago, were selected sixth in the preseason Conference USA poll that was released a week ago. Cross country coach David Hartman also welcomes 11 newcomers to his 17-man squad this fall.
UTSA is coming off last year's sixth-place finish at the Conference USA Championships. Cruz is the squad's top returning finisher from last season's league meet after placing 31st, while von Dohlen is the top returning placer from the NCAA South Central Regional (82nd place).
