UTSA adds Australian state champion to signing class

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Aaron Fox has added Harrison Wade, the 2018 New South Wales U20 1,500 meters champion, to the 2019 signing class.

Wade, who hails from Sydney, won the 2018 New South Wales U20 1,500m Championship with a season-best time of 3:50.67 a year after finishing as the runner-up in the race. He also registered a personal-best 8:20.90 to place fourth at the 2018 New South Wales 3,000m Championship

Wade started off the 2019 season by setting a pair of new PRs, as he posted a 3:48.78 in the 1,500m at the Hunter Track Classic in January and stopped the clock in 14:29.69 in the New South Wales 5,000m Championship. He also finished second in the 3,000m at the 2016 U18 New South Wales Championship and third in the 3,000m at the state open meet in 2018.

"Harrison Wade is a great addition to our recruiting class and this continues to help our program build a strong pipeline to Australia," Fox said. "He has developed into one of his country's top young distance runners and he'll be an immediate contributor once he arrives."

Wade is the ninth announced member of UTSA's 2019 class, as he joins men's signees Oquendo Bernard and Jack Turner and women's signees Taylor Armstrong, Vera Chinedu, Ana Carolin Da Silva, Natasha Purchas, Zoie Reyna and Maren Wilms.
