SAN ANTONIO — UTSA has signed McKinney North High School pole vaulter Jake Sauls, it was announced Thursday by Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Aaron Fox.
Sauls shined throughout his prep career, breaking his high school's record in the pole vault a total of six times and winning a pair of district titles and the area championship as a senior.
In 2019, Sauls grabbed gold medals in the pole vault at the District 10-5A Meet, the Justin Vault Expo and the Class 5A Area 9/10 Meet, where he cleared a personal-best height of 15 feet, nine inches. He went on to finish fourth at the region meet and ended his prep career with the 14th-best clearance in the state of Texas and 27th in the nation.
"Jake is going to be a great addition to the UTSA track & field program," Fox said. "He has experienced success at big meets in the pole vault and he also has a high upside. We're thrilled to add Jake to the Roadrunner Family."
Sauls is the 20th announced member of UTSA's 2019 class, as he joins men's signees Jayton Acosta, Jorge Ayala, Oquendo Bernard, Caleb Brandon, Joel McFarlane, Elliot Moran, Angel Robles, Grant Szalek, Jack Turner, Harrison Wade and women's signees Taylor Armstrong, Vera Chinedu, Ana Carolin Da Silva, Ingeborg Gruenwald, Sigrid Kleive, Natasha Purchas, Zoie Reyna, Amaya Scott and Maren Wilms.
