Soccer receives USC Team Academic Award

SAN ANTONIO - The UTSA soccer team received the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award after an exemplary performance in the classroom for the 2018-19 season.

The Roadrunners were one of 995 college teams that earned the Team Academic Award after finishing the year with a 3.34 team GPA.

"Our purpose as a department is to develop champions in the classroom, in competition and in life," head coach Derek Pittman said. "This is a huge credit not only to our players work ethic in the classroom but also the efforts of our administration, academic and coaching staff to provide them the resources to succeed. As their coach, I'm extremely proud of how hard they all work on the field but even more impressive is their dedication to their studies and success in the classroom."

United Soccer Coaches annually celebrates the academic achievements of high school and college soccer teams whose student-athletes collectively demonstrate a commitment to excellence in their studies over the course of a full academic year.

College Team Academic Award recipients are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program with a composite grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster for the 2018-19 academic year.
