SAN ANTONIO -- UTSA track & field has announced the signing of Paul Bouey to a National Letter of Intent for the 2020 season, it was announced by Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Aaron Fox.
"I am excited to announce the signing of Paul," Fox said. "He is one of South America's top junior athletes in the shot put and discus. He will come in and help our throws squad continue its rich tradition of producing excellent throwers. We look forward to helping him achieve his goals, both academically and athletically, while at UTSA."
A native of Santiago, Chile, Bouey comes to the Roadrunners as the seventh-best discus thrower (55.87; 183 feet, 3.5 inches) in the 2019 South American Junior rankings. He was also ranked second in the South American Junior Shot Put in 2019 with a (18.28) 59-feet, 11 ¾ inches mark.
Bouey shined in the 2019 South American U-20 Championships in the shot put, earning a bronze medal with a (17.36) 56-feet, 11.5 inches mark. He also competed at the Junior Pan-American Games for Chile during the 2019 summer in Costa Rica. He owns the Under-16 Chilean discus record with a (62.54) 205-feet, 2 ¼ inches mark.
