HOUSTON – UTSA won four events and Maia Campbell broke the school record in the shot put at the FasTrak Athletix Collegiate Invitational on Saturday at Yeoman Fieldhouse.
Amaya Scott won the women's long jump in her collegiate debut with a leap of 6.17 meters (20-3). That performance moved the freshman from Romsey, England into the No. 2 spot on UTSA's all-time performance list in the long jump, just shy of Morgan Moszee's standard of 6.20m set in 2006. Scott also moved into the NCAA's top 20 on this indoor season's performance list with her jump.
Jamal Anderson, a sophomore out of San Antonio's Wagner High School, took top honors in the men's high jump with a clearance of 2.00 meters (6-6.75), finishing ahead of sophomore All-American Gary Haasbroek (2.00m) by virtue of a jump-off.
Freshman Taylor Armstrong, a native of DeSoto, Texas, won the women's 200-meter dash with a time of 24.66 seconds in her first race in the event this season.
Junior All-American Danielle Spence collected her second gold medal of the year in the women's triple jump. The Jamaican skipped to a season-best mark of 12.56m (41-2.5) for a comfortable win ahead of McNeese State's Malaiya Jedkins (12.25m).
Campbell turned in the top women's shot put mark in UTSA history with a measurement of 15.06m (49-5), which surpassed the previous school standard of 15.01m (49-3) established by N'Dia Warren-Jacques in 2017. The Converse Judson High School product earned silver in the event and improved her previous career best of 14.53m registered at last year's Conference USA Indoor Championships.
Also in the shot put, junior Lacee Barnes set a national indoor record for her native Cayman Islands with a 14.42m (47-7.25) mark. Her performance was good for third place and bettered her previous PR of 14.20m (46-7.25) posted as a freshman in 2018.
UTSA returns to action on Friday, traveling to the Houston G5 and Mid-Major Invitational in Houston, Texas.
