SAN ANTONIO – UTSA soccer head coach Derek Pittman announced the spring 2021 schedule on Wednesday.
"We are just extremely grateful and excited to have the opportunity to play games next week," Pittman said. "It has been over 450 days since we last had the privilege of putting on our uniforms to represent UTSA in a competitive match and our players can't wait. Regardless of our opponent, our players fully recognize how special it is to do what we love and compete alongside teammates that they care so dearly for."
The Roadrunners open the spring season hosting St. Mary's on Feb. 4, followed by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Feb. 7.
UTSA hits the road for its first away trip to play Rice on Feb. 11. UTRGV comes to the Alamo City Feb. 14 before the Roadrunners return to Houston Feb. 18 to take on the Cougars.
"This schedule has some really intriguing games," Pittman said. "The pandemic has given us the opportunity to play more regional opponents and we are looking forward to playing matches against area teams in South Texas, as well as picking up several nonconference games in the Houston area. There will be plenty of opportunities for our UTSA fans to see us play."
Dallas Baptist comes to San Antonio on Feb. 20 before UTSA opens conference play.
"The C-USA schedule has been trimmed down to only six matches against the teams in the west division, which makes each of those games massive to earn points towards qualifying for the CUSA tournament. It will be fantastic to host Rice, UTEP and Southern Miss at home. This 2021 spring season is like no other and we will attack every game with our full focus and effort to achieve our goals!"
Conference USA announced splitting the teams into divisions this season. Each team will play every opponent in the their respective divisions and the top four teams in each division will qualify for the conference championship.
The C-USA slate starts with Rice on Feb. 28 before the Roadrunners travel to Ruston, La. To play Louisiana Tech on March 5.
UTSA will travel to Houston once again on March 7 to face Houston Baptist.
The Roadrunners return home March 12 to host Southern Miss, then hit the road to play at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (March 14) and UAB (March 21).
Closing out the home slate, UTSA will host UTEP (March 27) and Texas State (March 31).
A trip to Denton on April 9 will close out the regular season.
The Conference USA championship is set for April 13-17 in Houston.
