SAN ANTONIO — UTSA head women's golf coach Summer Batiste has unveiled the program's fall signing class, featuring Daniela Abonce, Lauren Rios and Olivia Williams. The trio will join the Roadrunners beginning with the 2022-23 season.
"We're thrilled to have signed Daniela, Lauren and Olivia for the 2022 class," said Batiste, a two-time Conference USA Coach of the Year. "All three young ladies are competitive and have the drive that will help carry us forward into the American Athletic Conference. We look forward to helping these ladies chase their dreams and watching them compete with Roadrunner spirit."
Daniela Abonce (Veracruz, Mexico)
Standout junior golfer in Mexico … played in the 2021 Mexgolf Cup … also has played on the Texas Junior Golf Tour … tied for fourth place at the Insperity Invitational/Patrick Reed AJGA Junior Championship … posted a runner-up finish at the Mazatlan Junior Classic with a 73-72-76—221 … finished eighth at the II North Cup after carding a 71-77-71—219 … won the 2020 Cypress Lakes Summer Classic with a 2-under-par scorecard … tied for fifth place at the 2021 Independence Elite at TPC San Antonio … tied for 26th at the FCG Callaway World Championship in Rancho Mirage, Calif. … teamed up with another player to fire a 4-under-par 68 to tie for third place at a U.S. Women's Amateur Four-Ball Qualifier … attended Instituto Mexicano Americano de Veracruz A.C.
Lauren Rios (Coppell, Texas/Coppell HS)
Two-time all-district performer at Coppell High School in the Dallas/Fort Worth Mextroplex … finished fifth at both the district and regional tournaments as a freshman in 2019 … named her team's MVP … helped Coppell win the regional title and finish fourth at the Class 6A State Tournament … received the Coppell HS "Fighting Heart" award in 2020 … has logged 15 top-10 finishes on the junior circuit … won the 2020 TJGT DFW Elite crown after posting a 69-72—141 … finished third at the 2020 LJT North Texas Classic with a 74-69—143 … fired a 72-69—141 for third place at the 2020 Pinehurst Notah Begay Regional Qualifier … finished fifth in the Texas Masters/IMG Junior World Qualifier with a 71-71-73—215.
Olivia Williams (Worcestershire, England)
Standout junior golfer from England … qualified for the Junior European Open finals with a 2-under-par 70 and will be competing in Spain later in November … advanced to the semifinals of the 2021 R&A Girls Amateur Championship before being ousted by eventual champion Hannah Darling … won the English Schools Golf Association National Championship at Belton Park with a 71-70—141 … finished fourth at the Justin Rose Telegraph Finals with a 73-76-73—222 … placed 22nd at the 2021 English Girls' Stroke Play Championship with a 306 that featured a 70 in the opening round … took 23rd in the English Women's Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship … shot a 71-72—143 to claim top honors at the WHLCGA Junior County Championship … captured the Kidderminster Junior Open and Ladies Committee Trophy … attended Haywood High School in Hagley, England.
