SAN ANTONIO- Joao Ceolin (Palotina, Brazil) stretched his win streak to 13 singles matches, dating back to last season, leading UTSA men's tennis to a 7-0 win over UTRGV on Sunday afternoon at the UTSA Tennis Center.
"I give credit to our three doubles teams for coming in clutch and getting the doubles point to start the day." UTSA head coach Sergey Avdeyey said. "From there, we were able to gain control of the match. I am happy to see the progression in our serving, only a few guys were able to break them the entire match. We have some adjustments to make before heading to California this week."
Ceolin won his third straight singles match to open the year, after finishing the 2021 season winning 10 straight in the spring, posting a 7-5, 6-2 win on court 1. It was Ceolin's 39th singles win in his career, tying him with Daniel Moreiras (2008-11) for sixth place for singles career wins in the history of UTSA's men's tennis.
In doubles, Sebastian Rodriguez (Trujillo, Peru) and Maxim Groysman (Bellevue, Wash.) claimed their first victory as a duo, posting a 6-1 win. Garrett Skelly (The Woodlands, Texas) and Miguel Alonso (Veracuz, Mexico) posted a 6-3 win on court 3, their first win as a team on the year.
Rodriguez, Groysman, Alonso, Tiago Torres (Lisbon, Portugal) and Danijal Muminovic (Tuzla, Bosnia) each claimed singles wins to help UTSA complete the sweep.
The Roadrunners will hit the road to California next weekend to face UC Santa Barbara on Saturday and Pacific on Sunday.
