Aston signs local Steele HS talent Sidney Love

SAN ANTONIO – UTSA women's basketball head coach Karen Aston announced the signing of local Steele HS talent Sidney Love to the 2022 Signing Class.

"We are so incredibly excited about Sidney Love's decision to become a Roadrunner," Aston said. "Her impact will be felt immediately in so many ways. First of all, Sidney is a winner. Her desire to be excellent in every area blends perfectly with the group of newcomers coming in 2022. The signing of Sid gives us another playmaker and scorer on the perimeter and a level of competitiveness that matches the culture we are trying to build here at UTSA. I know that coming from her High School program at Steele and her club program, she has expectations that match ours."

Sidney Love joins the Roadrunners after being a four-year letter winner under head coach Jeffrey Chatman. She was named the 2022 Co-District MVP, a McDonald's All-American nominee and the Express-News Player of the Week all in her senior season. Throughout her high school career, she was a four-time academic all-district recipient, named District Defensive MVP her junior year, earned TGCA All-Star accolades and first-team all-district.

"Sidney is what every coach dream of in choosing the perfect student-athlete," head coach Jeffrey Chatman said. "I had the privilege of coaching Sidney the last four years and I found that Sidney ended up coaching me. Sidney is a player who just makes everyone around her better. Whether it is on or off the court. One thing is for sure, after you meet Sidney your life will never be the same. Sidney left a legacy at Steele and is what we want in every student-athlete. Sidney will make notable achievements in life and just blessed to share a part in her future. I'm excited for her growth and the impact she will have on the UTSA program."

With the Knights, Love helped the team become 2020 District Champions and Co-District Champions in 2021. In her final campaign, Steele HS became a Regional Finalist.

Over her four years, Love scored 1,300 points to cap off her career.

Love comes from an athletic family. Her father, Kevin, played football for Texas A&M, her sisters, Endaisia and Camille, played soccer at Trinity and St. Mary's, respectively and her brothers, Kijana and Langston played basketball at New Hampshire and Baylor.

She joins Madison Cockrell, Siena Guttadauro and Maya Linton in the 2022 Signing Class.
