Boca Raton, Fla. – The UTSA men's tennis team claim a 6-1 win over Cleveland State on Friday afternoon at the Kimberly V. Strauss Tennis Center.
"I believe overall that we played better today." Head coach Sergey Avdeyev said. "We have improved in singles, and I am happy that we won the doubles point again. This was a very important win for us."
In singles, Tiago Torres (Lisbon, Portugal) earns his 11th singles win of the season as he went head-to-head with Mikael Erler, winning the tie break 6-7, 6-4, 13-5 on court 1. Sebastian Rodriguez (Trujillo, Peru) gets a 6-0, 6-4 win over Kade Mindry, claiming his 9th singles win of the season.
In doubles, the Rodriguez and Torres earn a 6-3 victory over Clark Bilinovich and Raul Teichmann on court 1. This is their 8th win as a duo. Also, Javier Gonzalez (San Fernando, Chile) and Danijal Muminovic (Tuzla, Bosnia) claim a 6-2 win on court 2. This is their first win as a team.
UTSA (8-7) is now ranked No. 70 according to the ITA rankings released Wednesday afternoon.
The Roadrunners will be back in action on Wednesday as they host Texas A&M Corpus Christi at 1 p.m.
