SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA men's tennis team topped UTA 6-1, breaking their four-match win streak on Wednesday afternoon.
"I am happy we won doubles; it gave us the momentum we needed." Head coach Sergey Avdeyev said. "This led to a a great start in singles. We played on our terms, and I feel like we're moving in the right direction."
Freshman Tiago Torres (Lisbon, Portugal) earns his 5th straight singles win as he improves to 7-2 on the season. Sebastian Rodriguez (Trujillo, Peru) also improves to 7-2 on the season in singles as he claimed a 6-1,6-2 victory on court 2.
In doubles, Maxim Groysman (Bellevue, Wash.) and Garrett Skelly (The Woodlands, Texas) defeat the 3-1 UTA duo Ricardo Alban (Guayaquil, Ecuador) and Habib Stambouli (Sousse, Tunisia) on court 3, as they improve to 4-2 so far this season.
Additionally, UTSA has now leaped to the No.60 spot announced by the International Tennis Association; it was announced by the organization on Wednesday afternoon. UTSA's current match average is 8.429 according to the computer ITA rankings. This will be the Roadrunners highest ITA ranking thus far as they were No.62 last week.
The Roadrunners will be back on the road this weekend as they prepare to face ACU on Saturday and the No.36 Texas Tech on Sunday.
