Williams leads UTSA on Monday at ICON Invitational

HUMBLE, Texas — Olivia Williams carded rounds of 76 and 75 to lead the UTSA women's golf team on day one of the ICON Invitational, which teed off Monday at the Golf Club of Houston (par 72/6,392 yards).
 
Williams is in a tie for 78th at 7-over-par 151, while the Roadrunners are in 16th place in a loaded field that includes 12 ranked teams. UTSA posted a 297 team score in the morning, followed by a 312 in the afternoon.
 
Williams wrote down a pair of birdies in her opening-round 76 before recording four in round two including three as part of a 2-under 34 on the front side. The freshman from Worcestershire, England, shares 78th with two other players with 18 holes left to play on Tuesday.
 
Camryn Carreon and Morgan Ellison are one shot behind their teammate in a tie for 83rd. Carreon, a senior from San Antonio, registered five birdies en route to a 1-over 73 in the first round before settling for an 80 in the afternoon. Ellison, a sophomore from Georgia, also posted a 73 on Monday morning on the strength of three birdies before turning in an 80 in the second round.
 
Daniela Abonce and Hunter Nugent round out the UTSA lineup in 85th (77-77—154) and 86th (75-80—155), respectively.
 
No. 10 Texas A&M (-25) tops the team standings behind individual leader Zoe Slaughter (-14), followed by No. 27 Iowa State (-24), No. 11 USC (-22), No. 43 NC State (-20) and No. 18 Oklahoma State (-19).
 
The final round is scheduled for an 8 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday.
